Firestops

Share

Firestops are defined under Technical Guidance Document B as a protective seal provided to close an imperfect fit or design tolerance ope between different construction materials or elements. They are a non-combustible material that is installed to restrict or completely prevent the smoke or fire spread between areas. Typically, wire-reinforced rock fibre is used as a firestop material in timber frame construction.

It is important that firestops are installed as per the timber frame manufacturer’s instructions and only installed by competent personnel.
